Paul Krugman, Dances with Wolf. Latin America was mentioned as historical anecdodte. Here are his other important posts: Chinese Currency Discussion, How Much Of The World Is In a Liquidity Trap? Capital Export, Elasticity Pessimism, and the Renminbi (Wonkish).
Well, a professor of mine used to say that sometimes an economist has to determine oneself as a national or an economist. As long as an argument based on economics sounds patriotic, it's fine politically. In case that what the economic theory suggests sounds unpatriotic, what should the economist do? The person in issue could be Justin Lin, a top Chinese economist who is the Chief Economist at the World Bank. While Paul Krugmen ridcules the structuralism of Latin America of 50s, Justin Lin publishes a new working pager called "New Structural Economics".
